How to Make Money With a Blog (Part 2)

...Continued

Before we get into advertising there are several tips that every blogger should know about to increase traffic to their blog. First, keep relevent old postings on your blog. Move your new information to the top, and provide links to other postings throughout your blog. You may want to put a line at the end of each posting saying “Read more posts like this”, and list related postings on your blog. You can also have links within your posting, whenever there’s a word that could link to a related posting on your blog. Or you can have a table on the side containing the 20 most popular postings on your blog. Interlinking will encourage readers to bounce all around on your blog as well as score you points with the search engines.

It would also be a good idea to network with other similar sites and exchange links with them. Keep your blog interactive. For the more advanced blog, allow readers to post feedback, or at least email the blogger. Look into RSS feeds as a way to increase traffic to your blog. Set up a subscription form on your blog through www.bloglet.com so readers will continually read your postings. Ping blog directories using www.pingomatic.com. Manually submit your blog to as many search engine and directories as you can. Use images. Use audio. Use video. Most importantly, keep the content on your blog interesting and update frequently!

If you use Blogger.com, their program facilitates the set up and use of Adsense. www.Blogads.com, www.crispads.com, and www.tagwords.com, are other advertising programs with a focus on blogs. Depending on your blog’s content, you can set up an affiliate program with Amazon.com and use affiliate links for movies, books, and other products that are referenced on your site. Affiliate marketing is a great way for website owners to make money online. See the NickelKnack article on Affiliate marketing to learn more. If you know you have some loyal fans of your blog, you may want to consider putting up a monetary donation option for your readers through PayPal. Or even consider selling products through an online store like CafePress.com, which allows you to customize products with your own logo or design.
